I spent some time playing with Flickr and talking photography dorkyness with Veirs last night. Picassa rocks and makes me want to use a PC again – sorta.

Unfortunately I recently broke my digital camera. Of course, as soon as I break it I all of a sudden have a photograpy itch I need to scratch. Stacey said I could use her camera, but it’s not quite the same.

I was thinking about taking a step up in photography, but I wondered what other people thought. If I go get a Digital SLR or SuperZoom camera, that would be rather bulky. If I can’t fit it in my pocket I may hesitate to carry the camera around to parties and such. Honestly I need two cameras, the easy to carry and all-powerful camera. Will the next generation of camera phones weighing in at 1.3 megapixels or more be able to fill the portability gap? Should I just buy two cameras? How much is photography worth?

I’m so thankful that there are creative people out there with brilliant ways to use existing tools. This guy came up with a way to use the new iPhoto ‘05 along with their new printing services to create a “Life Poster”. It’s a poster made up of 98 of your favorite photos. I made one last night and hopefully will have it in a few days. Lovely.

I’m testing out a new photoblog thing. I can just take a picture with my phone, send it via bluetooth to my mac, then everything else just happens automatically. Easy is good.

Pictures and OPML

There is this thing called OPML. It’s basically just a text file – like the bookmarks on your browser. It contains a list of RSS feeds that you read in your news reader. I know Stacey would be bored by this, but I’m getting quite interested by the idea of a news reader. I’m sure we all go out to about 300 web pages every day… plowing through comments in blogs, reading Slashdot updates, becoming one with the Washington post. You spend a long time typing, clicking, avoiding ads – this is all solvable with RSS/Atom and a news reader. I haven’t really decided on one reader for myself, but I was thinking I would share my OPML list for all to enjoy. We keep discovering that friends have blogs – Sean, Kelly. I’ll create one for the power and glory of the masses.

It Just Got Smaller

So last night when I got home I thought I’d actually watch some TV. I synchronize my TiVo with my computer, so I can just double click my way to a commercial-filled wonderland of prime time. A horrid noise came from my firewire drive enclosure as the drive started to spin up… hmm, not good. So it’s dead. I lost some movies. I lost the TiVo dupe – but all in all that was about the best drive to lose if I have to lose one. A quick manufacturer warrantee check showed that it expired in April – crap. This puts me below a terrabyte I believe – I guess it’s time to get more efficient with my space and I think I can fit everything nicely.
